Hello friends-

I received an early call from Jim (6:45 am !!) to tell me that surgery was NOT happening today, Tuesday.  Because Stanford is a trauma center for the bay area, there are lots of surgeries and his is not life threatening, so they are holding him till space / surgeons are available.  It will be a team of doctors led by the chief expert on femur / hip reconstructions.

I went to visit Jim today for a couple hours.  He is kept on the pain meds to reduce his pain, so is pretty foggy and falls asleep.  Everyone I've talked to says that a shattered bone and injury like that is VERY painful.  But the food is good (I can vouch for the soup that I tasted!) and the rooms are nice. Being a teaching hospital, there are lots of people around so I hope that he gets enough attention!

The next window for a surgery ... they call it "add on" since he has no scheduled surgery .... is tomorrow - Wed 7/13. I don't know if it will happen but he will try to call me if they start prepping him.  They told him it will take at least 4 hours, depending on what they find when they open up the leg.  I am going to try to get over there in the early afternoon to check on him if they tell me he is awake.

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. I will relay them to Jim.  I know that he will appreciate your good thoughts.

Marie
