Oktoberfest in Retrospect
Posted by Randy Klein
I want to thank every Scotts Valley Rotarian for helping to make this year's Oktoberfest a most enjoyable and successful event.
The list of positives is long and notable:
1. The
venue, at Patti Malone’s, was perfectly set up, attended and located on Scotts
Valley Drive. The setup was perfect for the venue. Rob Slawinski and Patty closely monitored everything
successfully.
2. The
food, served by Patti’s staff was authentic, tasty, and varied
3. The
event was as green as we could make it, and included a thoroughly coordinated
effort by Patrizia Materassi, Jack Marden, and a number of Rotaract and
Interact students.
4. Our
band, The Internationals, had entertaining and diverse music, included some
corny jokes and a couple of chicken dance events that involved most of the
crowd leaving all exhausted afterward.
5. The
Live auction, conducted by our Bob Slawinski, went smoothly and netted us and
the Interact Club some critical $ for future events. Bob’s delivery was
comprehensive and thoughtful.
6. Our
community attendees expressed having a great time.
7. Volunteers
whose help was vital came from the Interact Club, the Rotaract Club and the
Scotts Valley Education Foundation. We had a “boat load” of dignitaries,
including our own Rotarians, presidents of other Rotary Clubs, Scotts Valley’s
City Council, including our Mayor, the Scotts Valley High School football
coaches, members of the Kiwanis and Lyons Clubs, educators; and the list goes
on.
8. Jill
Hitchman and Don Ditlevsen were awarded “Rotarians of the Month” for their good
works.
9.
For
the first time in our history, we united the Interact and Rotaract Clubs at a
single event. They made our event much more manageable and enjoyable.
10. We had FUN, one of Rotary’s important tenets!
