In case you missed president Randy's address to those attending Oktoberfest, here it is:

6th Annual Oktoberfest, 2011, Malone’s Restaurant

             Welcome and thank you all for coming: Scotts Valley Community, Educators, Veterans, Rotarians, Rotoractors, Interactors, SVEF’ers, dignitaries (name those present), and all those who are here because they care about the young people in our community.

A) Why Oktoberfest?:

1) To Celebrate and enjoy our community on this fine fall day, with the best food our host, Patti Malone has to offer;

2) To listen and Chicken Dance to authentic Oktoberfest music fromTHE INTERNATIONALS;

3) To Support the New Generations of our community (let’s hear you cheer), especially the Rotoract Club of UCSC’s University students, Interact Clubs of Scotts Valley High School and Scotts Valley Middle School, and, in fact all the students in our District who are jointly supported by Rotary and the SVEF (Allsion Niday, and other SVEF’ers, please waive);

4. To help by eating, drinking (sanely), donating, and bidding in the upcoming Mini Live Auction; this will be run by our own Rob Slawinsky, of Slawinsky Auctions, itself a MAJOR contributor to our community in many ways;

5. To do all of this in a Green and Sustainable way with the shepherding of Patrizia Materassi, Jack Marden, and the support of SVMS, SVHS, and UCSC.

           B) Why Rotary?

1) The Scotts Valley Rotary Club, for 36 years, has been dedicated toInternational service, both here in Scotts Valley and around the world. Essentially, Rotary is devoted to making this world a better place in which to live. One of our five “Avenues of Service” involves the support of our New Generations so strongly represented here today.

2) An Important surprise to the person I am about to call up here, is our Rotarian of the Month. This person is a mother who works extremely hard to support the children in our community. Her successes include last year starting and nurturing the large Interact Club at SVMS, the transportation of children to and from school who would otherwise have to walk a great distance, and the coordination, with Fire Chief Mike McMurray, of the tree planting/beautification at Scotts Valley High School. For this effort, the Interact Clubs of SVMS and SVHS have recently been given an award for their efforts by our Chamber of Commerce. It is my pleasure to introduce, award and acknowledge Jill Hitchman for her past and ongoing support of the children of Scotts Valley. Jill and Jack to award Check to SVHS Interact Club President, Kristen Snell.
